Short answer

For 2026-27, Australian resident income tax is nil to $18,200, 15% to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000 and 45% above. Add the 2% Medicare levy. HELP and STSL repayments start above $69,528. The Super Guarantee is 12%, and the national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour from 1 July 2026.

Superannuation

  • Super Guarantee: 12% of ordinary time earnings
  • Payday Super: from 1 July 2026, SG is paid each payday and must reach your fund within 7 business days
  • Maximum contribution base: $270,830 (now annual)
  • Concessional contributions cap: $32,500; non-concessional cap: $130,000
  • Under-18s: SG only when working more than 30 hours in a week (the old $450/month threshold was abolished in 2022)

Wages and leave

  • National minimum wage (from 1 July 2026): $26.44/hour, $1,004.90/week (38 hours); casual loading 25%
  • Modern award rates: increased 4.75% from 1 July 2026
  • Annual leave: 4 weeks a year (full-time); paid personal/carer's leave: 10 days a year (full-time)
  • Payslips: must be issued within 1 working day of payday

Ending employment

  • Genuine redundancy tax-free amount: $13,598 base plus $6,801 per completed year of service
