The most common pay mistake
'Including super' is not the same as 'plus super'
A salary advertised as A$90,000 including super is not the same as A$90,000 plus super. If super is included, part of the package goes into your super fund instead of your bank account - so your cash salary, and your tax, are lower than you might expect. Always ask which one an offer uses before you compare jobs.
Compare including vs plus superCommon payslip red flags we check
- ⚠Your salary may secretly include super
- ⚠You may not be claiming the tax-free threshold
- ⚠HELP/STSL is quietly reducing your take-home pay
- ⚠A second job is taxed differently
- ⚠Required payslip details may be missing
- ⚠Super may not be paid on every payment type

Common questions
How is Australian take-home pay calculated?+
Your take-home pay is gross pay minus PAYG withholding, the Medicare levy, any HELP/STSL repayment and other deductions. Superannuation is usually paid on top of your salary, unless an offer says 'including super'.
Does Australia use tax codes like the UK?+
No. Australia does not use UK-style PAYE tax codes. Your pay depends on your TFN declaration, residency, whether you claim the tax-free threshold, PAYG withholding, Medicare levy, HELP/STSL and superannuation.
What is the super guarantee rate in 2026-27?+
The Superannuation Guarantee is 12% of ordinary time earnings - the legislated maximum, in place since 1 July 2025. From 1 July 2026, Payday Super also requires employers to pay super each payday rather than quarterly.
Are these calculators official?+
No. Payslip IQ Australia is independent and not affiliated with the ATO or Fair Work. Results are estimates to help you understand your pay - always check official sources or a professional.
