Job Offer Comparison Calculator Australia
A higher salary is not always the better offer. Compare two roles after tax, super, commute cost and lost commute time.
Short answer
Compare offers after tax, not on the headline. This tool nets PAYG tax, the 2% Medicare levy, 12% super, bonuses and commute costs, then shows which role leaves more in your pocket. An offer $10,000 higher but quoted including super can end up behind once the fund takes its share.
Offer A
Offer B
Offer A
Take-home after commute
$72,010
Super $11,400 - real hourly value $39.28
Offer B
Take-home after commute
$67,480
Super $11,250 - real hourly value $34.36
What really decides it
Tax, whether each salary is plus or including super, commute cost and travel time can swing a comparison by thousands a year. A role paying $10,000 more but quoted 'including super' with a long commute may not be ahead.
Questions to ask before you accept
- Is the salary plus or including super?
- What is the bonus structure and is it guaranteed?
- How many days in the office, and what is the commute?
- What leave and flexibility apply?
Frequently asked questions
Does it account for super?+
Yes - tick 'includes super' on either offer and the comparison adjusts the cash salary and tax accordingly.
How is real hourly value worked out?+
We add your unpaid commute time to a 38-hour week, so a long commute lowers the effective hourly value of an offer.
Can I compare a contractor offer?+
Use the contractor vs employee calculator to convert a day rate into an equivalent salary first, then compare here.
