What To Do If Your Payslip Is Wrong

Written and checked by , Founder and EditorPublished Updated Figures checked against ATO and Fair Work sources.

Short answer

Check the figures first: your rate and hours, that super is 12% of ordinary time earnings, and that every deduction is authorised. Raise it with payroll in writing, quoting the pay period. Under Payday Super, contributions should reach your fund within 7 business days. Escalate to Fair Work or the ATO if it is not fixed.

Step by step

  1. Check the figures. Confirm your gross pay matches your rate and hours, that super is 12% of ordinary earnings, and that every deduction is authorised. Compare against the payslip calculator.
  2. Raise it in writing. Put the issue in writing to your employer or payroll, quoting the pay period and the exact lines that look wrong. Keep copies of payslips and correspondence.
  3. Check your super fund. If super is the issue, check your fund's transaction history - under Payday Super, contributions should arrive within 7 business days of payday.
  4. Escalate if unresolved. For unresolved underpayment contact the Fair Work Ombudsman. For unpaid super, report it to the ATO.
